A handcrafted New Zealand contemporary toki-style pendant with a traditional satin finish by Madelyne Gourdin.  
This piece retains some of the interesting raw textures of the jade river stone as found in a wild Nelson river. It is known by Maori as Pakohe, geologically as argilite. She has added an exquisite detail of an inlaid flower jade disc with beautiful variegated colours.

Complete with an adjustable plaited waxed braid cord, it also includes a traditional woven presentation case and a detailed description of the meaning of the carving.

The Toki is the adze blade was bound onto a wooden handle and used to carve the great canoes and details on the meeting houses.   It represents a creative or artistic person and the coming together of head, hand and heart.
